With the 2005 season coming to a close, the Toronto Blue Jays have once again gone from contenders to pretenders. Year after year we see the same thing. A young Blue Jays team surprising the entire league, but they fall apart down the stretch. I am one of the few Blue Jay supporters I know. But things have got to change.
Miguel Batista, in my view, is a bum. Don't get me wrong, he has a ton of potential. Problem is - he's lost his confidence. I think this all started when he was put in the bullpen back in 2003. He needs to suck it up and get on with the fact he is best suited as a relief/closer.
I think Jay Gibbons has done a spectacular job as bench boss. However, he is still learning. In last night's game he pulled Josh Towers in the 9th inning. That may sound okay but Towers had only thrown 84 pitches, given up 5 hits, and allowed one run. Batista came on in relief and gave up the winning homerun to Tampa.
I am confident in the Blue Jays starting rotation. Since Roy Halliday went down the young pitching staff have really stepped things up. I think it is definitely something to build on.
Or who knows, maybe I'll find myself back here next year saying the same things again. Regardless, I will continue to root for the good ol' boys.

I too am a Jay's fan but it gets harder every year as they continue to tease with their mid-season runs and late season crumbles.
The Jays have a great scouting system and they seem to have a youngster explode onto the scene every season. Perhaps some season vets are what the team needs to keep things together late in the season?
