An interesting point from the TSN Analysts was that there would be a likelyhood of a lot of teams trying to tank the season in order to draft Sidney Crosby. How many here think this would be the case?
Some teams I don't feel would have to tank because they're so weak but I wonder how many powerhouse teams would intentionally not sign big name UFA's in order to get a shot at Crosby.

I definitely think it's a possibility, which is very unfortunate. Teams know that Crosby will in fact be the NEXT ONE. But I honestly think that he will shock everyone and end up playing overseas next year, and God knows for how long. And if he does, a lot of teams will be scrambling to do some damage repair.

You really think he'll play overseas next season? Personally I would love to see a team like Edmonton draft him. Edmonton has always played such a wide open game that Crosby would absolutely flourish there with the right linemates. Seeing him in Nashville or NJ would make me cry because of their defensive styles. Another team I'd love to see him on is Atlanta. Imagine Crosby, Heatly, and Kovalchuk on the same line!!!!

I would also love to see Crosby play in the NHL, especially with a Canadian team (preferrably the Leafs). But there's already been talk of him going overseas next year. The guys in the top office in Rimouski have spoken out about it and said if there is no NHL Draft, then Crosby is still under contract with the Oceanic and can't go anywhere. But if Crosby's father wants him to play overseas, then I believe he will because his father has made every other decision for him so far. And as much as I would love to see him play in the NHL, if there is no season next year I think the wide open game overseas will be hard to refuse.

I can't see them not having a draft because that would totally screw things up if they didn't. The only question, in my mind, is how they will decide who gets to draft where. The talk so far has been on a weighted system of last years rankings and then doing a lottery

I think doing it based on the last seasons standings would be the best way. None of the teams made any big moves or improved over the past 10 months. Hopefully they take that approach.

I agree that would make the most sense. I would hate to see a team like Detroit get him. Just because they are one of the strongest teams in the league.
Seeing Crosby in Washington with Ovechkin would be phenominal!!!

If Detroit were to get him in the draft that would be just plain robbery. I think Crosby will do well with whatever team he is on. It won't take long for other teams to be all over him with double coverage. And when this happens, look out, because that's when the ice really opens up.
I question Ovechkin's mental preparedness for the NHL right now. During the World Juniors he was completely thrown off his game against Canada in the gold medal game (Go Canada Go!!). He will be playing against guys with twice the strength and a lot more skill than Junior level. As well, he really drew attention when he continously mocked the Americans in Russia's 7-2 semi-final win. If he does that in the pros he might as well get use to pine touching his ass.
