NEW WATERFORD, N.S. – Police specialists went through computers at a Cape Breton school Thursday to find out who created a website containing hate lists.
Someone claiming to be a student at Breton Education Centre in New Waterford listed "preps, druggies and very *friendly* persons" and made derogatory comments about certain students. One list was called "people I hate more than life."
It didn't take long before word of the website spread through the school.
"It's just some guy from New Waterford listing all the people he hates and saying that [the school] ruined his life," said student Chris Keeping.
Although the site didn't appear to contain any direct threats of harm, rumours of weapons and hit lists soon circulated. Some students left the school shortly after classes started.
"They're going on about guns and stuff and someone's gonna get shot," said a Grade 7 student named on the site. "I think it's just a rumour."
School officials fielded calls from worried parents and tried to reassure them that investigators don't believe the students are in any danger.
The website was taken down by mid-afternoon.
Police say their main focus now is to find the person who created the site. The culprit could face a number of charges, including mischief and uttering threats.

I believe they found out who made the site and when they went searching they found a "hitlist" with names and they also found some weapons.

I don't know about you, but I think it's getting pretty scary at some schools. There have already been two incidents in New Brunswick in the past couple of months that involved death threats, weapons, and hit lists. And just this week police responded to a high school and junior high in Halifax because of speculated brawls. I know there were fights when I was in high school but now there's always weapons involved. People are going to start dying or getting severely hurt. What's the problem here?
