That when you sell your house, in Cape Breton, you have to pay for the search?
Well, it's true! The search, which was always paid for by the purchaser of the land, with house or not, but now that the government is digitizing all land ownership information, the seller of the land is responsible to pay for the search, which could cost upwards of $1000-$1200.
Cape Breton County is the last county in Nova Scotia to do this so regardless of whether or not you purchased your house 3 years ago or 30 years ago, and had the search and survey done at that time, you still have to pay for the search again when you sell.
Lawyers love this because they no longer have to pay their paralegal's to spend a week going through books trying to find information on your piece of land. Why? Because you now do it for them.
I'm posting this because it was a shock to me and thought you all should know.
Cheers
